Qbik's NetPatrol takes on the hackers
Hack attempts and other attacks from the Internet are becoming increasingly complex and better-concealed. As a result many common firewall solutions are simply not sophisticated enough to detect them. Realising the need for a packet-level network traffic monitoring system that can detect these types of malicious activities, Qbik embarked on a development effort to provide a tool for network administrators aimed at just this need. Qbik is now proud to provide its solution - called NetPatrol.
Intrusion detection system
From the experience gained with WinGate - Qbik's comprehensive proxy server solution, Qbik realised that a logical and necessary complement would be an intrusion detection system that could monitor, analyse and report on suspicious network and Internet traffic behaviour to and from the WinGate Internet server. Currently NetPatrol operates as a stand alone monitoring system, providing relevant traffic information, and raising alerts about suspected network intrusions or attacks.
Monitor a single machine or an entire network
NetPatrol can be set to monitor all network connections on the machine on which it is installed, and provide a detailed report on network data that is addressed to those interfaces. Or it can be set to "promiscuous mode" where it will monitor all network traffic on all the ethernet segments that the NetPatrol machine is connected to.
With a "danger level" monitor, NetPatrol will attempt to gauge the behaviour and severity of the data activity, and respond accordingly. It can be configured to handle certain types of network behaviours based on a set of rules that administrators are able to configure depending on their security reporting requirements.
Scalable Modular system
NetPatrol is built on top of installable modules, with certain tasks assigned to each. Because of this, NetPatrol can be used as a distributed IDS system, allowing for higher performance and better ratio of handled/lost packets on highly-loaded networks.
Session reconstruction and investigation tools
All IP Traffic can be logged and sessions reconstructed. A graph of attacks level indicates current threat level. From the main display, Source or Destination computers can be investigated.

Also included is the Qbik PortList tool, allowing easy real-time monitoring of all connections to and from the local machine and the processes responsible. Connections and processes can be easily terminated from the main screen. Even system services can be terminated

Network based Intrusion Detection system
NetPatrol is high end network intrusion detection system designed to monitor suspicious traffic from the Internet or across the network, and respond accordingly. Currently NetPatrol operates as a stand alone monitoring system, providing relevant traffic information, and raising alerts about suspected network intrusions or attacks.
Identify known attacks
NetPatrol analyzes network trends to identify risks and well known data attacks that may be happening on the LAN. Due to NetPatrol’s high-level inspection of each packet that passes its gaze, it can readily alert administrators to well known Internet attacks and network intrusions such as Denial of Service and Syn Flood type behaviours.
Installable Modules
With its core design built as an engine, Netpatrol allows the installation of various modules which can be assigned to handle specific tasks, such as monitoring packets for a particular features, or a module that will focus only on the TCP component of network activity session.
Distributed IDS
Due to the architecture of it's design with installable modules set to focus on specific tasks, NetPatrol can defined as a distributed Intrusion Detection System, which can set to only monitor for specific traffic/location behaviour allowing for better load handling in high traffic networks . As a result NetPatrol provides better performance and a higher ratio of handled /lost packets then other monitoring systems.
IP Logging
NetPatrol offers full logging so that details of traffic session can be scrutinised for further definition.
Session reconstruction
NetPatrol allows for the reconstruction of an entire session, which allows for a total inspection of what actually occurred with every packet handled during the network attack or traffic event in question.
Graph Reporting
NetPatrol has a built in real time graph monitor of attacks and malicious activity that will increase or decrease according to a danger level that can be specifically set by administrator.
Qbik Portlist Tool
NetPatrol comes complete with the Qbik Portlist tool, which shows what applications are in use on the NetPatrol machine, and the ports that have been opened as a result. This gives administrators a precise indication of all application communication sessions that are occurring to and from the machine.
Easy Monitoring
NetPatrol provides easy monitoring of all connections to and from the machine where NetPatrol is installed. Connections and processes can easily be terminated from the main screen.
Stand Alone Service
NetPatrol is a stand-alone service it does not require the WinGate Suite to be installed on the machine. NetPatrol can be installed on any machine on the network you wish to analyse.
Process Identification
NetPatrol can identify the processes that are involved with network activity being monitored on the machine on which it is installed.
